ADAS Systems on Your Audi Q3

The second-generation Q3 (F3, 2019 onwards) brought Audi's full MQB-platform ADAS suite to the compact SUV segment. Earlier Q3s (8U, 2011–2018) offered limited driver assistance – parking sensors and optional rear camera only.

On the F3 Q3, the key systems are:

• Adaptive Cruise Assist – radar-based cruise control using the sensor mounted behind the front grille badge. Maintains distance and adjusts speed automatically.
• Audi Pre Sense Front – automatic emergency braking at highway speeds, using the front radar and windscreen camera in combination.
• Pre Sense City – low-speed AEB for urban driving, camera-only detection of pedestrians and vehicles.
• Active Lane Assist – camera-based lane keeping. The camera sits behind the windscreen, above the rearview mirror.
• Side Assist – blind spot monitoring via rear-corner radar sensors, one in each rear bumper.
• Rear Cross-Traffic Assist – warns of crossing traffic when reversing, using the same rear radar sensors as Side Assist.
• Park Assist – ultrasonic sensors around the bumpers for automated parallel and perpendicular parking.

The Q3 Sportback shares identical sensor hardware and positions. Unlike the larger Q7 and Q5, the Q3 does not use the centralised zFAS module – each system has its own control unit, which simplifies single-sensor calibration but still requires OEM-grade equipment. Why Your Audi Q3 Might Need ADAS Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

The Q3's windscreen-mounted camera handles both Active Lane Assist and Pre Sense City. When the glass is replaced, the camera's mounting angle changes – even by a fraction of a degree. Without recalibration, lane keeping pulls in the wrong direction and Pre Sense may not detect obstacles accurately. If your windscreen company couldn't complete the camera calibration, we finish what they started.

After Bumper Repair or Replacement

The front radar sits behind the grille badge. Any front-end bodywork – from minor parking scrapes to collision repair – can shift the radar's alignment. If Adaptive Cruise Assist or Pre Sense Front has stopped working after your Q3 visited a body shop, the radar needs professional recalibration.

Rear bumper work affects Side Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Assist equally. Both rear radar sensors must be recalibrated if the bumper was removed or replaced.

After Buying a Used Q3

If you've picked up a Q3 with unexplained dashboard warnings – particularly a Cat S or Cat N vehicle where front-end work was done before sale – the ADAS sensors may never have been recalibrated after the repair.
