Audi Q5 ADAS Calibration

Your Audi Q5's front bumper was repaired after a collision – but Adaptive Cruise Assist and Audi Pre Sense Front are both showing faults. The Q5's front radar sits behind the grille badge, and on the second-generation model (FY, 2017+) both systems share this single radar feed. A bumper repair that shifts the grille by even a fraction of a degree takes out cruise control and emergency braking at the same time.

ADAS Systems on Your Audi Q5

The Q5 has evolved its ADAS configuration across two generations:

First generation (8R, 2008–2017):

  • Adaptive Cruise Assist – optional on higher trims, standalone radar module behind front grille
  • Audi Pre Sense Front – optional automatic emergency braking
  • Limited ADAS overall – many 8R models have minimal driver assistance

Second generation (FY, 2017+):

  • Adaptive Cruise Assist – standard on S line and above, radar behind front grille badge
  • Audi Pre Sense Front + Pre Sense City – standard AEB covering highway and urban speeds
  • Active Lane Assist – windscreen-mounted camera behind the rearview mirror
  • Side Assist – blind spot monitoring via rear radar sensors in the bumper quarters
  • 360-Degree Camera System – optional surround view using four exterior cameras
  • zFAS module – on Vorsprung and high-spec S line trims, centralising all sensor data

The Q5 shares its MLB platform with the Audi Q7 and uses the same sensor mounting architecture as the A4 sedan – but the SUV's higher ride height means the radar and camera angles are calibrated to a different reference plane.

Why Your Audi Q5 Might Need ADAS Calibration

After Bumper or Front-End Repair

The Q5's raised ride height puts the front bumper at a different contact level than Audi's sedans. Car park barrier strikes, shopping trolley impacts, and minor nose-to-tail collisions are common – and each can shift the grille-mounted radar from its calibrated position. Adaptive Cruise Assist and Pre Sense both lose accuracy from the same impact.

After Windscreen Replacement

If your Q5 has Active Lane Assist, replacing the windscreen dislodges the camera from its factory-set position. On FY models with the zFAS controller, this can cascade into Pre Sense faults alongside the lane keeping warning – both are processed through the same centralised module.

If your windscreen company completed the glass but couldn't calibrate the camera, our Windscreen Calibration finishes what they started.

Audi Q5 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Audi Q5

Same ADAS systems, different calibration reference. The Q5 uses the same MLB platform as the A4, with identical sensor hardware – but calibrated to the SUV's higher ride height. A calibration file from an A4 doesn't apply to a Q5, which is why manufacturer-specific targets are essential for accurate recalibration.
