Audi A8 ADAS Calibration

Audi's flagship sedan was the first production car to feature the zFAS centralised ADAS controller – and the D5 A8 (2017+) carries more sensors than any other Audi. Front radar, windscreen camera, four corner radars, laser scanner, infrared Night Vision camera, and 12 ultrasonic sensors all feed into a single controller. When something goes wrong with one sensor on the A8, the zFAS module can flag faults across systems that seem completely unrelated.

ADAS Systems on the Audi A8

The A8 represents the most complex ADAS configuration in the Audi range:

D4 (2010–2017):

  • Adaptive Cruise Assist – standard, radar behind front grille
  • Audi Pre Sense Front + Pre Sense Rear – standard AEB with rear collision preparation
  • Night Vision Assistant – optional infrared camera behind the grille
  • Active Lane Assist – windscreen-mounted camera
  • Side Assist – standard blind spot monitoring
  • Standalone sensor modules – no centralised controller

D5 (2017+):

  • zFAS module (J1121) – centralised ADAS controller. The A8 was the first Audi to receive this module.
  • Audi Pre Sense 360 – front, rear, and side pre-collision responses
  • Adaptive Cruise Assist – standard, with traffic jam assist
  • Active Lane Assist – standard, windscreen camera with lane centring
  • Night Vision Assistant – infrared camera detecting pedestrians and animals
  • Intersection Assist – warns of cross-traffic at junctions (A8-exclusive)
  • Side Assist + Exit Warning – alerts passengers before opening doors
  • 360-Degree Camera System – standard on all D5 trims

The A6 and A7 share the MLB platform and zFAS module with the A8, but the A8 carries additional sensors – Intersection Assist and the laser scanner – unique to the flagship.

Why Your Audi A8 Needs Specialist ADAS Calibration

zFAS cascade failures: On the D5 A8, all sensors report to the zFAS module. A front-end repair that misaligns the radar can trigger faults in Pre Sense, Adaptive Cruise Assist, and Intersection Assist simultaneously – even though only one sensor was physically disturbed. Our Full System Reset (£499) recalibrates the complete zFAS scope in a single session.

After Night Vision or front-end repair: The A8's Night Vision infrared camera and front radar both sit behind the grille. Collision repair, bumper replacement, or even grille removal for detailing disturbs both sensors. They need recalibrating as a pair – separate visits waste time and money.

After windscreen replacement: Active Lane Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Pre Sense camera functions all depend on the windscreen-mounted camera. Our Windscreen Calibration (£199) restores these after glass replacement.

Audi A8 Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

The A8's sensor density means collision repairs often require our £499 Full System Reset – covering radar, camera, Night Vision, and all zFAS-connected systems. For standalone windscreen replacement, our £199 rate applies.

Audi A8 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Audi A8

Intersection Assist is an A8-exclusive system that monitors cross-traffic at junctions and warns you before pulling into the path of an approaching vehicle. It uses the front radar and camera data processed through the zFAS module. After any front-end repair, the system's accuracy depends on correctly calibrated sensors – it's included in our Full System Reset scope.
