Audi A1 ADAS Calibration

The Audi A1 packs Pre Sense City into the smallest body in the Audi range – and that compact size makes its sensors more vulnerable to everyday impacts. A parking bump that would miss the radar on a Q7 can shift the A1's grille-mounted sensor enough to trigger Adaptive Cruise Assist faults. The A1 shares its MQB A0 platform with the Volkswagen Polo, but uses Audi's own Pre Sense branding and calibration procedures.

ADAS Systems on Your Audi A1

The A1 (GB, 2019+) brought Audi's ADAS suite to the supermini segment:

  • Audi Pre Sense City – standard automatic emergency braking at urban speeds on all trims
  • Adaptive Cruise Assist – optional on S line and Vorsprung trims, radar behind front grille badge
  • Active Lane Assist – optional, windscreen-mounted camera behind rearview mirror
  • Rear Parking Sensors – standard, ultrasonic sensors in rear bumper
  • Front Parking Sensors – optional on higher trims

The A1 does not have Side Assist (blind spot monitoring), 360-degree cameras, or Night Vision – these are reserved for larger Audi models. But the systems it does have use the same calibration precision as an A4 or A6 – sub-degree accuracy for the front radar and exact pixel alignment for the windscreen camera.

The front radar sits behind the four-ring badge on the grille – identical placement to larger Audis, but in a smaller bumper that's closer to parking obstacles, bollards, and kerb-height contacts.

Common ADAS Issues on the Audi A1

After Windscreen Replacement

The most common A1 calibration trigger. If your A1 has Active Lane Assist, the windscreen camera must be recalibrated after any windscreen swap. Many windscreen companies replace the glass but can't perform the Audi-specific camera calibration – we finish what they started.

Parking and Low-Speed Impacts

The A1's compact dimensions mean the front bumper sits lower and closer to everyday hazards – bollards, parking posts, kerbing. A low-speed impact that you'd barely notice can shift the radar behind the grille badge enough to trigger ACC faults. If your cruise control stopped working after a bump you thought was harmless, the radar alignment likely shifted.

If your Audi A1 is braking unexpectedly at low speeds or displaying Pre Sense warnings with no obvious cause, the front radar may be misaligned – recalibration resolves it.

Audi A1 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Audi A1

Yes. Every A1 (2019+) has Pre Sense City as standard – automatic emergency braking that uses the front radar. If you have S line or Vorsprung trim, you'll also have Adaptive Cruise Assist and Active Lane Assist. All of these require professional calibration after windscreen replacement, bumper repair, or any front-end collision.
